Cookie policy
www.bybym.be uses two cookies, both strictly necessary, and an anonymous, cookie-free audience measurement tool that you can switch off. No tracking cookie, no advertising, no third-party content without your consent. This page explains what they do and how to change your choices.
1. What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your device (computer, phone, tablet) through your browser. It lets the site remember something between two pages or two visits: your language, for example. A cookie set by the site you are visiting is called “first-party”; a cookie set by another company’s service embedded in the page is called “third-party”.
2. The cookies we use
| Name | Purpose | Category | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
bym_lang | Remembers the language you chose (EN or FR), so that the site opens in that language next time. | Necessary | 12 months |
bym_consent | Remembers your cookie choices (the version of this policy you accepted, the categories you allowed and the date), so that we do not ask you again. | Necessary | 6 months |
Both are first-party cookies, set by www.bybym.be only. They contain no personal data and do not identify you. They are exempt from consent under Belgian and European law because the site cannot do what you ask of it without them.
If we ever add a cookie from another category, it will appear in this table before it is used.
Not a cookie: if you switch audience measurement off, your choice is stored in your browser’s local storage under the key umami.disabled. It is not sent to any server and stays in place until you clear your browser data.
3. Categories and default settings
- Necessary · always on. The two cookies above. They cannot be switched off.
- Audience measurement (cookie-free) · on by default. Tells us which pages are read, without identifying you, through the Umami tool described below. You can switch it off at any time.
- Third-party content · off by default. Content hosted by other companies, such as an embedded calendar or video, whose servers may set their own cookies. No third-party content is in place today. Our online calendar, if offered, opens on the provider’s own website rather than inside this one.
Nothing in the “Third-party content” category loads before you accept it. Audience measurement is exempt from prior consent because it is anonymous and cookie-free; it is on by default and switches off with one click.
Audience measurement without cookies
We use Umami (Umami Cloud, a service of Umami Software, Inc.), an audience measurement tool designed to work without cookies and without personal data.
What it measures: page views, the country (worked out from your IP address, which is discarded straight away), the type of device and browser, and the site you came from. Visits are grouped with an anonymous hash that is recalculated every day, so it cannot recognise you from one day to the next or follow you from one site to another.
What it does not do: it sets no cookie, stores no identifier on your device, keeps no IP address in the statistics and shares nothing with advertising networks. The data is hosted in the European Union.
Why there is no banner: a strictly anonymous, cookie-free audience measurement is exempt from prior consent. It is therefore on by default. You can still switch it off with one click.
How to switch it off: open “Manage cookies” in the footer and turn the “Audience measurement” switch off. Your choice is stored in your browser (key umami.disabled) and applied immediately: Umami honours this setting, and the site itself checks it before loading the measurement script, on every page and in both languages.
4. How to change your choices
On this site: click “Manage cookies” in the footer of any page, or the button below. You can accept, refuse or withdraw each category, including switching audience measurement off. Your choice is saved for 6 months (the audience measurement opt-out stays until you clear your browser data).
In your browser: you can view, delete or block cookies in your browser settings (usually under “Privacy” or “Site data”). Note that deleting bym_lang will reset your language choice, deleting bym_consent will make us ask for your choices again, and clearing site data (local storage) will switch audience measurement back on until you turn it off again.
5. Updates
We update this page whenever a cookie is added, changed or removed. The date and version at the top tell you which version you are reading. When the version changes, the site asks for your choices again.
